Iron Man - Behind the scenes for Audi R8 Stunt

Director Jon Favreau had planned for the Audi R8 to be used in a final scene by being involved in a dramatic collision with Iron Man’s wicked adversary. This had to be omitted from the final cut, Director Jon Favreau explains: “The crash just wasn’t spectacular enough! Our stunt specialists did their best to turn the R8 over onto its roof, which would have given us a dramatic final scene, but they failed — the car clung to the road too well!”
Jon Favreau, Producer Kevin Feige and John Armstrong, Picture Car Coordinator, give an impression of their efforts.

Iron Man filming budget: $135 Million. I’m pretty sure they have the money to buy as many R8’s as they want. Quit ing. CGI can be noticed as being fake. This is realism.

For some reason I didn’t like the R8 much in the beginning because I thought that it copied the Bugatti Veyron look too much but I sure like the car now. That car is AWESOME and nothing else.

wow…audi must be dropping loads of money on product placement. i mean, iron man has an r8 in it. anyone see the trailers for transporter 2? THE WHOLE IN MOVIE IS ABOUT THE AUDI! i love audi but i hate product placement.

levirolla, a lot of movies use the shells of super cars with cheap engines to keep production costs down… How do you screen movies to make sure that they don’t destroy cars? Or do you just close your eyes when you think it’s about to happen? I hope you boycotting the movie industry for destroying cars is working out. Let me know how that goes…

thats why I hate movies with cars. They make me sick. As A true Car fanatic I don’t watch movies where Cars such as the R8 or Aston Martin Dbs or CGTs or ENZO are destroyed in the sake of marketing and publicity. At least in the Fast and the Furious they never destroy cars of value. They didn’t even wreck the Supra in the first one. As I always said, YOU DON’T THROW $400,000 LIMITED PRODUCTION PORSCHES DOWN A HILL, YOU DON’T PUT ENZOS IN WALL AND YOU DON’T FLIP AND CHOP R8S.

So this just goes to show great how Audi cars are, including high stability and strong construction! Too bad the Audi press don’t use these true stories for their advertising. I wonder if the crew of “Transporter-3″ had as much trouble destroying Audi cars…

(BTW: the EMS’ Jaws of Life could save you coz it’s designed to break chassis! The Iron Man crew used an elaborate can opener that was just used on Audi’s sheet metal.
